On 14th July, an expert panel led by Hunan Province’s Association of Agricultural Science Societies and consisting of experts from Plant Protection Institute of Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences, Hunan Academy of Agricultural Sciences, Shenyang Agricultural University, Plant Protection Institute of Shandong Academy of Agricultural Sciences, National Agro-Tech Extension and Service Center and Plant Protection and Inspection Station of Hunan Province paid a field visit to inspect and review KingAgroot’s weed control demonstration project of Flusulfinam, a new-generation safe, highly-effective, broad-spectrum HPPD-inhibiting herbicide, and its series products in direct-seeded rice paddies in Yuanjiang City, Hunan Province.

The expert panel inspected the practical field control effect of Flusulfinam and its series products. Flusulfinam solo product (trade name 稻普瑞®) showed excellent overall effect (>98%) against weeds such as barnyardgrass (Echinochloa crusgalli), Chinese sprangletop (Leptochloa chinensis), smallflower umbrella-sedge (Cyperus difformis), etc. Flusulfinam mixtures (trade name 稻舞®, 米斯通®, 清原早灵®, 安除®) showed 95%-98% effect against resistant barnyardgrass (Echinochloa crusgalli), which was 25%-28% higher compared with Penoxsulam and Cyhalofop-butyl. In addition, Flusulfinam was safe to indica hybrid rice cultivar “昱香两优馥香占” at 2-3 leaf stage and tillering stage both by aerial application and manual application.

The on-site inspection of the expert panel

After hearing and discussing the project presentation, the expert panel spoke highly of KingAgroot’s patented compound Flusulfinam. “To my knowledge, Flusulfinam is the first amide class of HPPD-inhibiting herbicide. It has similar safety level to both japonica and indica rice, which is a great breakthrough for HPPD-inhibiting herbicides.” Professor Ji Mingshan from Shenyang Agricultural University said.

The expert panel agreed that Flusulfinam and its series products exhibit outstanding effect on resistant barnyardgrass (Echinochloa crusgalli), Chinese sprangletop (Leptochloa chinensis) and smallflower umbrella-sedge (Cyperus difformis), and also high rice safety, thus having broad application prospect. The project team shall accelerate the registration process and further improve relevant application technologies.

Flusulfinam

As a new-generation HPPD-inhibiting herbicide independently developed by KingAgroot, Flusulfinam can effectively control barnyardgrass (Echinochloa crusgalli), late watergrass (Echinochloa phyllopogon), Chinese sprangletop (Leptochloa chinensis), common crabgrass (Digitaria sanguinalis) and other key weeds resistant to ALS and ACCase inhibitors in rice paddies. It is also highly safe to japonica and indica rice. The herbicide could be applied after 1.5 leaf stage of rice. The products are expected to be launched in China in 2024.
